I'm going insane right now
so I'm doing some good old programming for my funny video game and I am having a Hard Time
it's a 2.5d top down pixel art game and I'm desperately trying to get the walking animations to work
my sprite won't walk forward and she doesn't stop walking ???? I have blend trees set up but it won't transition to idle for whatever reason
I'm moving across the map just fine, my animations are just being weird
if you can help please do. I will be indebted to you forever

I don’t know who needs to hear this but if trauma plays a role in your transition that is 100% valid. If your transition is solely because of your trauma that’s valid to.
I can’t tell you how often victims of trauma (but especially sexual trauma) get their transition blame solely on our trauma. And the more I have thought about it over the years, the fact this point gets brought up to shame or neglectly depicted our transition. The more I have realized this type of gotcha to trans people is just part of transphobia and victim blaming culture.
We have been told by multiple doctors and therapists that we are only trans because of our trauma
My system is causes by trauma I know that as a fact, my system affects my identity, my gender is a part of my identity. And thus my trauma did in part cause me to be trans.

Through Yourself: Dev Log Week 1-Week 3
Due to just making this page I will go over what has been done in the last three weeks:
Completion of version 1.0 of the GDD of 'Through Yourself' completed; ensured that this project is small enough to be done with a small team, but rich in story
Reference images added to GDD
Started Unity project; added a textured ball, a camera, and pill for testing purposes on a flat, colored plane
Created basic scripting for movement (FPSMovement)
Created basic scripting for camera control (FirstPersonCamera)
Created basic scripting for picking up objects (HoldObjects which became HoldingObjects later)
Revised movement and camera control scripts to work better with the placeholder 'Player' object as well as picking up objects
Added Object Rotation to HoldingObjects script; removed old script from textured ball placeholder and added new HoldingObjects script to Player prefab
Tuned object movement when on pick-up to come to the hand smoother; further refined FPSMovement and FirstPersonCamera to more easily work with the new HoldingObjects script
Started work on making objects snap to specific places
I am aware that this is not a whole lot at first glance, but I have a vision, and am determined to see it through. I do hope you all take a chance on this, and watch as it progresses.

this is how i felt showing the unity3d official the exact patch note where they said they added webgl audio compression, along with the documentation that changed to reflect it, along with logs from a unity3d official 4 years ago telling me that the exact problem i'm facing again today would be fixed in unity 2020 (it is now the year of our lord 2025), then handing them the most minimal repro project possible.

i dont understand the whole "unity" thing. what is happening? all the game devs on my tl are talking about it
Alright so starting from 0:
To make a game, you need to do a lot of things: display objects, animate them, physics, collisions, etc. This, is a lot of work, so while you can do them from scratch, and some people do, most people will use a game engine.
A game engine is a software that does many of the reccuring things in a video game. For example, it handles the displaying of 3D objects. But it doesn't do the whole game, even with an engine, there's still a lot of work to do.
What most devs will do when making a game, is that they'll use an engine as a basis, and then build above it.
Now, we have several options to choose from, when it comes to game engines. One of these options is called "Unity". Unity is one of the largest game engine, with a reputation of being great to learn for beginners.
And many people, me included, spent of fucking lot of time learning Unity, and developing tools for Unity and all was good.
But everything changed when capitalism attacked.
A few days ago, Unity announced they would change how they would bill developers for each time their game would be downloaded, above a certain threshold. Which made a lot of devs angry.
First because it counted once for each device the same user would download the game on, then once for each time he reinstall the game, then once for each pirated version etc. Also it was retroactive so there are games that will be withdrawed from Steam, like cult of the lamb and such.
So of course we got angry and they backtracked on a few things. I'm still gonna change engine because fuck them.
But swapping engine isn't an easy task. If you're working on a game, you'll have to redo most of the code. If you made tools, all these will be useless. So some people are stuck with Unity and their unfair practices.
